Digital bank becomes the UK’s most valuable fintech. The fundraise was led by SoftBank’s Vision Fund 2 and Tiger Global Management.
Balderton first led a $2.3m late seed/early A round in Revolut in 2015. Our partner Tim led the charge on this investment and brought in Daniel Waterhouse, another of our partners, and they have worked together with Nik and the team over the last 6 years. Last year Daniel wrote about our journey with the team in his blog: “Revolut at Seed – a revolution in the making“. Revolut now has over 16 million customers and sees over 150 million transactions per month. The company plans to continue expanding its range of services, including exploring newer areas like insurance and a deeper dive into investing and trading. Revolut will also be doing more to build out its user bases in geographies such as the U.S. and India.

SoftBank and Tiger Global’s investments are an endorsement of our mission to create a global financial superapp that enables customers to manage all their financial needs through a single platform. This funding round makes Revolut the UK’s most valuable fintech, demonstrating investors’ confidence that we can deliver products that raise the bar for customers’ expectations across the whole financial services industry.

When we invested in the Revolut seed round in 2015 we had a belief that they had the DNA and ambition to build something incredible. This only became clearer as we worked with them over time and we are delighted that they have attracted some great additional partners and financing to continue to build a modern global bank for consumers and businesses. Revolut is the perfect example of what we at Balderton are looking for and are on the way to fulfil our belief that the next EU giant will be a tech company.
